How I Write Copy
for Your Marketing Material

When you hire me to write copy for your marketing material, I usually follow the following format:

  1. In preparation for your project, either by phone or by email, I will ask you a structured series of questions, with the intention of finding out:
    • The goal of your required marketing material. If you're not sure which marketing material to create, I can help you determine that if you let me know what you're trying to accomplish.
    • All the information I can gather on your target audience, so that I can intimately understand their problems, needs and desires... and specifically what motivates them to buy.
    • All the information I can gather on your product or service, so that I can better understand how it solves your prospect's problems, or fills your prospect's needs or desires.
  2. I will quote you a price. If you are a new client, I will typically request 50% of the quoted price upfront. I may ask for this before the first step, depending on the involvement or complexity of the project.
  3. I will write your copy, using proven techniques for B2B copywriting -- which typically follow a "recipe" of 8 ingredients, or a variation thereof.
  4. Throughout the writing process, it may be necessary for me to contact you, or someone else in your company, to ask more questions or to get feedback. If this is necessary, I promise to respect your time as much as possible by writing down all my questions that I have and sending them to you all at once -- rather than bit by bit.
  5. I will send you the finished copy, along with any design suggestions. I typically send this as a Microsoft® Word® document, unless you request otherwise.
  6. If you want revisions to the copy that I have written, I'll implement these promptly -- and at no additional charge to you. This is provided that all requested revisions are brought to my attention within 30 days, and do not consist of a change in scope of the project.
  7. At no charge, and at your request, I will review the design draft to confirm that the copy is laid out effectively.
